General Information

Trekking  in CCODER project area enhances inter-cultural relationships while offering economic development to the disadvantaged in remote village areas. Our program is interlinked with all other components of  community development model. The community banks, the community schools and the families are all part of this most unique trekking alternative. Community Treks  Benefit All!

  • Employment and income are generated at the local level

  • Agriculture and handicraft businesses are supported

  • Management skills are learned

  • Profits support individuals and community development projects

  • Sharing experiences and wealth brings peace and great satisfaction

Community Treks Make A  Difference!

  • Minimize the negative impact from tourism.

  • Provide maximum benefit to the villagers.

  • Promote local culture and traditions.

  • Support sustainable resource management.

  • Create a better understanding between foreign visitors and rural Nepalese.

How Treks Are Organized

  • Our trekking group sizes range from 5-15 participants, of all ages and nationalities.

  • We offer several trekking options and itineraries.  Individual treks, tailored to your interest and needs also can be arranged.

  • Accommodation  in village guestrooms and in tents along the way

  • Three delicious meals are served daily (vegetarian meals are available).

  • You can try "Nepali Daalbhaat" (rice, lentils and farm-fresh vegetables) prepared by your host family.

  • Full pre-departure information and an orientation in Kathmandu are offered.

  • Additional travel arrangements within Nepal (e.g. airport transfer, hotel in Kathmandu, sightseeing, jungle safari etc) can be arranged.

What to Expect in the villages

Village life is simple and basic, but Nepalese hospitality is very warm. You will stay in a separate guestroom with a Nepalese family. All houses have a toilet and a water tap close by, but electricity, flush toilets, and hot showers are not available.  If you wish, your hosts will serve you Nepali food or some other food items (a simple menu is presently being developed).

Remember, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world! Be prepared that the facilities and hygienic conditions are below Western standards. There are also differences in traditions and norms (see below). The people's desire to welcome you into their community, however, is genuine and sincere. Having a foreign guest is a great joy and honor for them. Pleasing you as much as possible is their gift to you.

Treks: When to go

The best time to visit Nepal is September to November, just after the monsoon has washed away the dust and the air turned clear again. Another good season is February to May after the winter has passed. Dependent on this natural or the Nepali cultural cycle or
independent from the seasons you might complement your community trek with one of the season.
